SUBSTITUTE TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary: May be called to fill-in for a teacher who is absent either for a full day (8 hours) or half day (4 hours). Must be able to follow a lesson plan and deliver applicable instruction.
Qualifications: Two-year Associate's degree or 48 hours of college credit and Effective Teaching Training for Substitutes; or Bachelor's degree and Effective Teacher Training; or completion of a teacher education program (does not have to complete ETT).
Must attend an orientation workshop; this is a 3 hour session at the Asheville City Schools Central Office and this is required of all new substitutes. There is no charge for this workshop and applicants must submit a complete application. After we receive your application we will email you details about the orientation.
For substitutes who are not certified teachers, you must have Effective Teacher Training and have a minimum of 48 college credit hours. Copies of transcripts are required and must be included with the substitute applications.

Substitute pay is $70/day-gross pay for ETT substitutes and $91/day-gross pay for certified teachers. Your teaching certification does not have to be current, but we do need a copy of the actual document.
