Asheville City Schools is hosting a five-member review team from October 28 through the 31st as we go through a rigorous re-accreditation process. The district last earned accreditation in 2007. As a matter of interest, Asheville High School is approaching the century mark as an accredited school, having received one of the first evaluations in the state.
The External Review Team assembled at Central Services this morning, where they will view Superintendent Johnson’s overview of the district, conduct interviews with the superintendent and the Board of Education and receive a summary of the district’s five quality standards. The afternoon consists of individual interviews on each of the standards and interviews with the principals of schools not receiving a site review.
On Tuesday, the visiting team will split up and visit six district schools, conducting interviews with teachers, parents and students and visiting several classrooms.
On Wednesday morning, the team will conduct any necessary follow-up interviews and prepare their report. They will then meet with Superintendent Johnson at 2:00 PM followed by their formal exit report at 2:30 PM in the Board room.
The district has been working for months to prepare narratives for each standard and the evidence to support our practices.
