Mrs. Kimberly J. Dechant, Principal
In 1994, I graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in Housing and Interiors. It did not take me long to realize that my heart was in education. I returned to school in 1995 and graduated from Western Carolina University in 1997 with a B.S. Ed. in English. I started teaching in 1997 at East Henderson High School. In 2001, I obtained my National Board Certification in Adolescence and Young Adulthood/English Language Arts. I began teaching at Asheville High School in 2003. I have served on numerous committees at both high schools. Moreover, I taught journalism, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade honors and standard English.
While on maternity leave in 2005, I decided to apply for the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program, a merit-based scholarship loan program, funded by the North Carolina General Assembly. The aforementioned program enabled me to be a fulltime student and complete the MSA program in two years. As a Principal Fellow, I had the opportunity to complete a year long administrative internship at Claxton Elementary School.
I have been married to my husband Bill fourteen years. I am a mother to three daughters: Emma Casey (stepdaughter); Mary Addison “Addie”, (stepdaughter); and Harper Miles.
Travis Hannah, Assistant Principal
I am thrilled to join the Claxton family and am looking forward to meeting everyone. Western NC has been my home for the past 35 years. I have been married to my beautiful wife, Wendy, since 2005. She is also an administrator working in Buncombe County Schools. We have two wonderful little boys Gavin, 4, and Cael, 2.
I received both of my degrees from Western Carolina University. I have a B.S.Ed. in Secondary English Education (2000) and a Masters in School Administration (2013). I began teaching English in 2001 at East Henderson High School, and have been teaching at Pisgah High School for the last four years. This is a new and exciting adventure for the Hannah family. Please contact me if there is any way that I may aid you and your family.
