Mrs. Sweater's class just completed a science/social studies project to understand how landforms of the United State's regions were formed. After their independent research, they displayed their information on brochures, posters, flipbooks, etc. They worked with classmates that researched the same region to create a paper mache identifying important landforms and landmarks. Click to see the construction of the land forms. Click to see the presentations.
Mrs Greggs class project: Each student researched a region of the United States. He/she learned about the rural and urban areas, the arts and crafts, how the area was settled, and by whom. The student then developed a product to show his/her knowledge (powerpoint, poster, brochure). The students enjoyed sharing their research with their classmates. Later the students made salt dough maps showing the major landforms of the region they researched.
MLK Breakfast
The 5th Grade students at Claxton had a wonderful time at the annual MLK Breakfast held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church across the street from Claxton. Thank you St. Paul's for providing the space. The speaker was Mr. Tyrone Greenlee. Mr. Greenlee is the director of Christians For A United Community. This organization works to mobilize people of faith around issues of race and social justice. He spoke of Martin Luther King Jr. and how the best way to celebrate the holiday is to serve others. Student photographer, Antonio shared his pictures of the breakfast in the photo gallery.
