Asheville City Schools provides special education and related services for eligible students, ages 3 to 21.
Services are based on individual student needs and present levels of performance. Specially designed instruction is based on the student’s Individual Education Program (IEP) and provided in their Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). IEPs are implemented using research-based instructional practices and strategies. Special education teachers work in collaboration with general education teachers and parents to ensure all students with IEPs are entitled to a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE).
