Shawn Winebrenner, Art
My name is Shawn Winebrenner and I am the visual arts teacher at Asheville Primary School for both Montessori and Preschool.
My educational experience includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in photography + Art K-12 Teaching Licensure from the University of North Carolina Asheville. I also hold a Visual Arts/Graphic Design degree from the Art Institute of Atlanta.
I'm a firm believer in the power of education and have witnessed firsthand how art plays an essential role in early childhood development. Creativity is an expression of ourselves; through music, literature, and the visual arts all children have an opportunity to become who they are destined to be.
Part of my focus for the art curriculum is to provide students with foundational art skills that are continually built upon to prepare them for higher-level activities. Through learning the basic elements of art, students are encouraged to think and create in an environment that promotes growth and individuality. Students are also introduced to the impactful art of women and people of color that has so often, throughout history, been overlooked. At Asheville Primary School we enthusiastically celebrate the rich and beautiful people and cultures of the United States and the world.
I’ve been a part of the Asheville community for twelve years and am grateful to be a contributing member of something so great at Asheville Primary School. When not teaching, I’m an active participant in social justice causes and equity/equality work. I attend music concerts when possible, and spend quality time with my supportive husband and our two loving cats., Lys and Lucem.
