  • Mission Statement

    It is the mission of the Learning Services Department is to improve student performance through leadership development, curriculum and instruction and assessment that will allow all schools to be prepared to teach the whole child. The department will also provide our students with the essential skills, attitudes, and integrity necessary to become successful, responsible and productive citizens.


    The Learning Services Department provides instruction and related services for Asheville City Schools to help staff create high-quality learning environments for every student. Our primary purpose is to support district-wide programs and initiatives that promote staff and student learning and achievement including supporting schools in the following areas:


    • Testing and Accountability
    • Leadership Development
    • Alternative Learning Approaches:
      • Homebound
      • Asheville Learning Program
      • Home-Connect
    • K-12 Fine Arts
    • School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)
    • Excellence with Equity
