  • Janna Hoekema- Hall Fletcher School Library Media Coordinator

  • Our Library Media Center provides access to a variety of resources which are available to support student learning. The library strives to ensure students have many experiences which influence their development as information technology literate citizens. A full time librarian is available to assist students with selecting the materials they need to best answer their questions and to guide them in selecting the book that best suits their individual reading preferences. In addition, Hall Fletcher's library has Flexible Access. Flexible Scheduling or Flexible Access means that the school library is available for students and classes when needed. Such a library program can be fully integrated into the learning and helps students analyze, interpret and communicate ideas in various formats. As the American Library Association says, "Inquiry skills are taught and learned within the context of the curriculum and may occur in the classroom, the library, or at home with 24/7 accessibility to a wide range of resources, technologies, and services." Classes are scheduled on an as needed basis with teachers and the librarian planning "just-in-time" research or use of technology together. Flexible Access is considered best practice as it also gives students and teachers the opportunity to utilize the library throughout the day to access information sources, find just-right books that excite and engage students and allow for collaboration between students and adults.

  • Our 2017-2018 Battle of the Books Team came in 1st place in our district competition! Our team was made up of 4th and 5th graders who love to read. They worked hard all year to read a list of books then worked together to answer questions about all of the books they read. When the team arrived back at school they were suprised by a crowd of Hall Fletcher students and staff who came out to cheer them on! We are all so proud of their hard work!

Hopefully, our competition and reading club will resume this year. Check with Ms. Hoekema for more information.
