ACS 21st Century Community Learning Centers

Asheville City Schools currently operates 21st Century Community Learning Center Programs at three elementary school sites, providing free after-school to more than 130 ACS students during the school year. This program prioritizes Asheville City Schools students who may not otherwise have access to enrichment opportunities. Transportation, snacks, instructional staff, and high-quality materials ensure that after-school opportunities are equitable and all children have access to participate.
Core Program Components:
- Academic Support:
- Daily homework help
- Small-group literacy and math instruction
- Aligned with the NC Standard Course of Study
- STEAM-Focused Enrichment:
- Engaging, hands-on experiences that build curiosity and reinforce academic skills
- Partnership-Driven Learning:
- Including TAPAS (Teaching Artists Presenting in Asheville City Schools) artist residencies, FEAST gardening and cooking, Read2Succeed literacy partnerships and more.
- Family Engagement:
- Workshops, orientation sessions and themed family nights such as Reading by the Campfire, holiday celebrations, and rodeo nights.
- Summer Programming:
- A four-week learning experience blending reading, math, STEAM and project-based learning.
