AHS Culinary Students Compete in ProStart Competition

Future chefs from Asheville High School are competing at the North Carolina ProStart Invitational.

     The ProStart Invitational, which take place at Johnson & Wales University, consists of two competitions - culinary and restaurant management. The culinary competition is a "Top Chef" style event, which tasks teams of five with preparing a three-course meal in 60 minutes. In addition to taste, teams are evaluated on skill, teamwork, safety and sanitation.

     The management portion involves developing and presenting a proposal for the next promising restaurant concept.

     If selected as one of the top-placing teams, our Cougars will move forward to the national competition in April. To prepare for the NC Invitation, our chefs recently held a “dress rehearsal” that required students to prep, create and serve a three-course meal in less than 60 minutes.
