Ascher Walker Wilson Named Asheville High School's Valedictorian

Ascher Walker Wilson is the Valedictorian, finishing first amongst Asheville High School’s Class of 2019. The son of Greg and Susanne Walker Wilson, he is a member of the National Honor Society, Girl Up and a leader in the Serve and Interact Club. Walker Wilson played soccer throughout high school and was a Varsity student-athlete his Junior and Senior year. Additionally, he was part of the Asheville High School/SILSA Speech and Debate Team his Freshman, Sophomore and Junior years, having the chance to twice compete at Harvard University in Public Forum. Throughout high school, Walker Wilson took 12 Advanced Placement classes and three A-B Tech courses. He is fluent in Spanish and had the chance to intern with Señora Booher, helping her teach Spanish II and AP Spanish, his Junior year. Walker Wilson was selected to attend Governor’s School of North Carolina for Spanish the summer before his Senior year. Additionally, he spent the summer before his Junior year in Nicaragua with Witness for Peace. He too works at Papa John’s Pizza to help pay for college. Walker Wilson was part of Asheville High’s Top 20 all four years of high school and earned awards for AP Government, AP Spanish, AP Environmental Science as well as Spanish Intern. He also received the Elizabeth Cady Stanton - Fredrick B. Douglas Award from the University of Rochester his Junior year. Walker Wilson has received a Merit Scholarship to Grinnell College and plans to major in either Political Science or History.
