School Nutrition Department Earns Farm to Table's Outstanding Award

Congratulations most certainly go to our School Nutrition Department!

The Farm to School Coalition of North Carolina champions educational activities to gardens, taste tests and local food purchases.

During this year's summit, they honored Local Education Agencies and the work of School Nutrition Departments, health professionals, educators and community partners who lead Farm to School across North Carolina schools.

Asheville City Schools was presented with two awards during last week's Farm to School of NC Summit.

We received both the Gold Award and Outstanding Award for our commitment to diverse stakeholders, a comprehensive and holistic approach, innovative use of resources, innovative activities, the ability to share out learned lessons as well as the the ability to serve as a vocal champion of Farm to School.

A special thank you goes to: Janette Broda (ACS's School Nutrition Director), Joan Pinegar (Isaac Dickson Elementary School's Garden Coordinator), Jordan Diamond(FEAST Asheville & Garden Coordinator) as well as to Jessica Sparks-Mussulin (the Growing Minds Program Manager with ASAP - Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project).
