Complete Your Child's Free/Reduced Meal Application Form

If you have not already done so, this month is the perfect time to renew your child's free or reduced meal application.

Although Asheville City Schools will continue to serve meals at no cost through our Food Distribution Sites, it’s important for your child's school that you submit your meal application form to determine eligibility.

Wondering why?  Well, ALL elementary schools across the district receive significant funding through Title 1.  These funds provide services like additional academic coaching, student supplies, teachers, tutoring, parent involvement events and professional development.  Additionally, school and district departments use this data to qualify for grants, homeless and foster children services as well as teacher-loan forgiveness.

All of these Title I services are critical to our district, as Title 1 is about providing equitable services to support learning opportunities.  But, in order to receive this money, funding is determined based on the number of students eligible for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program.

Students who received free or reduced meals during the 2019-2020 school year will revert to full pay status on September 29, 2020, UNLESS a new meal application is submitted and approved based on USDA eligibility guidelines. We understand that financial circumstances have changed due to COVID-19 so it is not too late to apply for this program.

What is the fastest and easiest way to apply? Complete an application online

If you prefer to submit a paper application, you can print one by visiting this link or pick one up from the front office at your child's school. Once completed, please turn it into your child’s school or mail it to our School Nutrition office at 90 Montford Avenue, Asheville, NC, 28801.

If you have received a letter telling you that your child was preapproved for meal benefits you do not need to reapply.

Additionally, if you need assistance completing an application, please contact the School Nutrition office at (828) 350-6110.
