Special Called Meeting To Revisit Proposed MOU For Construction and Installation of Utility Scale Solar Panels
October 7, 2020
Good Evening Students, Staff and Families. This is Dr. Gene with an update about our school community.
It has been brought to my attention that misinformation about our district has been circulating on social media.
Please know that whenever any opportunity comes across my desk, I think: How will this benefit the Cougar Family, and are we being good stewards of taxpayer dollars?
My staff has heard me say it many times; if a decision is right today, it will still be right tomorrow. I am not one to rush decisions that have real, lasting impacts on our districts.
Due to a constricted timeline and many unanswered questions, our Board of Education did not feel comfortable moving forward with a memorandum of understanding between the district and Buncombe County to place solar panels on several buildings as it was originally presented.
We received additional information, further clarification and answers to our questions earlier this afternoon. I would like to give a special thank you to County Commissioners Brownie Newman and Al Whitesides for giving us added insight into both the proposed project as well as how future budgets will be determined.
Having received their valuable input, the Asheville City Board of Education will be holding a special called meeting this Friday, October 9th at 2:00 PM to revisit the proposed MOU regarding the construction and installation of the utility-scale solar panels.
