Asheville City Schools Named National Board Certified District

Asheville City Schools works hard to promote student learning through accomplished teaching! In celebration of our dedicated educators, we are proud to announce that ACS is one of just 79 districts nationwide to be named a National Board Accomplished District.
“We encourage our teachers to pursue National Board Certification because it pushes them to be a more reflective practitioner because the process drives them to dive deep into the whys of their practice and how it is impacting their students,” said Dr. Kimberly Dechant, Asheville City Schools’ Director of Recruitment and Induction.
The distinction means that, at least, 20% of our teaching staff have achieved National Board certification.
In order to do just that, candidates build a portfolio that includes student work samples, assignments, videotapes and a thorough analysis of their classroom teaching.
Certification is currently available to educators in 25 fields and is regarded as THE HIGHEST CREDENTIAL in the teaching profession.
In total, Asheville City Schools is “home” to 67 National Board teachers and 7 principals/assistant principals that have maintained their National Board Certification.
Congratulations to our outstanding educators and their commitment to being lifelong learners.
