Jo Landreth receives Patriot Award
Congratulations to Asheville Middle School Principal Jo Landreth for receiving the Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve's Patriot Award!
An employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve nominates their supervisors and bosses for this award. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide range of measures, including offering flexible schedules, time off before and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.
AMS teacher Kenny Nichols nominated Principal Landreth. Lieutenant Colonel Nichols has worked as a Math and Science teacher at AMS since 1995, and he has continued to serve in the Army Reserve in a variety of roles since 1997. During his deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, students and staff sent LTC Nichols care packages of Doritos and barbecue sauce, a hand sewed quilt to keep him warm on cold desert nights, and several large American flags made in finger-paint style using his student's hands. AMS has always supported their beloved Soldier and has welcomed him back with open arms after each adventure.
We are honored to have Principal Landreth and Mr. Nichols in the Cougar Family and thank them for all they do.
