We had a busy week!
Hopefully you heard that Smokey the Bear visited us. Ask your child what she or he learned about the bear and about protecting our forests.
Then, we got to visit the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was a beautiful day and the kids were such troopers on our walk (which was a bit longer than expected). Many thanks to our chaperones for all of your help!
When we got back from our field trip we were able to learn how an apple press works, and we even got to try it out ourselves. The kids said the juice was the perfect drink after their long walk! :)
We were also able to start working on our character costumes. (Thanks to our volunteers!) So far we have two Little Red Riding Hoods and three Runaway Bunnies. :) We'll continue next week each morning from 8:30-9:30. Please let me know if you'd like to come in and help!
We have now had two field trips, and I have realized that I need to do more/better explicit teaching of field trip expectations, including bus rules, and I need to provide more opportunities for our kids to practice. This will be one of our focuses next week, as we will be going on our first walking field trip Friday afternoon - Yea! (Permission slips with details will be sent home.) I will be sending more information about how you can help so that we can ensure that everyone is as safe and as happy as possible on our trips. We're so lucky our learning experiences are able to extend beyond our school building!
Whew! Kindergarten is so much fun (and a little exhausting)! ;)
